Imphal, July 10 2020:
Outrightly rejecting S Subhaschandra's claims that he was forced to resign as MLA and kept confined at a Congress camp, ex-Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi has asserted that the ex-MLA (S Subhaschandra) had resigned from his post at his own will and joined the camp voluntarily without any influence.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan today, the CLP leader said the claims of ex-MLA S Subhaschandra are baseless and are aimed at defaming the Congress party.
Ex-MLA Subhaschandra resigned from the primary membership of the BJP and as MLA on his own.
He was never kept confined as he claims, instead he joined the camp voluntarily and stayed on his own will, said Ibobi.
"He (S Subhaschandra) was never kept confined at the camp.
And the allegation that he was slapped on the face by Congress MLAs is beyond our apprehension.
He had joined the camp voluntarily and left saying he would return.
The allegations that Congress kept confined an elected Member of Legislative Assembly and confiscated his mobile phone and the claims that he was slapped on the face by Congress MLAs Th Lokeshwar, K Meghachandra and party member Th Vikramjit and forced to resign are laughable" said Ibobi.
Rebuking S Subhaschandra's claim and ridiculing the FIR filed against some Congress MLAs, the CLP leader said that the Congress party is a constructive Opposition ready to cooperate and assist the Government in every developmental work beneficial to the people.
The party, he claimed, was "silent" and never intended to cause the power struggle that happened recently.
The crisis was not started by Congress but by the MLAs of the NPP and BJP due to rivalry between them, he said.
S Subhaschandra had submitted his resignation letters to the Speaker and BJP office (for resignation from Primary Membership).
The State BJP unit president had accepted his resignation.
His decision to resign was never influenced by Congress.
The Speaker had also accepted his resignation and subsequently the seat for Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency was announced vacant.
Consequent upon his resignation, he was not included in the electoral roll for the Rajya Sabha election held on June 19, said Ibobi.
Further, "the police complaint at Patsoi PS which alleged that S Subhaschandra's resignation was coerced by a BJP Minister and some Congress MLAs" is baseless.
The Congress has no connection with BJP and none of the members of the party had any talk or link with the said BJP Minister, Ibobi said.
