The case of Chicken Pox outbreak in Kwakta Ward numbers 6 and 7, reported in the media has been investigated by the IDSP unit, Bishnupur today.
According to a statement of Chief Medical Officer of Bishnupur L Gojendra Singh, eight people of three families were found infected or recovered during the investigation.
Only two persons are in the active stage.
The team further traced the origin of the outbreak to a 13-year-old child who was infected one month back.
Awareness on good nutrition, routine immunization, sanitation and hygiene has been given to prevent such common infectious disease in the community, it said.
"The people were also motivated to visit the nearby PHC when such diseases occur," it said.
"Chicken Pox is a low priority disease because of its low mortality rate however, people in general avoid going to health centres on the wrong notion that medicine from doctors has harmful effects," it said.
A vaccine is available but not included in the National Immunization Programme of Health Ministry, it added.
