Imphal, July 10 2020:
The Manipur Human Rights Commission has taken up a case regarding a complaint filed by 6 job card holders of Thambalkhong Gram Panchayat which alleged that their job card accounts have been shifted and wages have been withdrawn without their knowledge.
There are around 2006 job card holders under Thambalkhong Gram Panchayat and they used to withdraw their wages from their accounts opened with the Manipur Rural Bank (MRB), Porompat Branch and Kongba Branch.
However to everyone's surprise, some job card holders were informed that their accounts with the MRB have been shifted to Manipur State Co-operative Bank, Porompat Branch when they approached their respective banks on not receiving wages transfer notification for long after finishing work programmes.
On further inquiry, many accounts of job card holders were found to be opened using Aadhaar Cards and at the same time wages of many were found allegedly withdrawn.
Interestingly, the accounts were opened at the said bank without the signatures of the account holders concerned.
How the withdrawal process was allowed is still a mystery to all the job card holders concerned, the complainants said.
6 job card holders namely Mutum Echal, Lairenmayum Romila, Toijam Geeta, Khagembam Binarani and Sarangthem Nganthoi had filed a complaint to SP Imphal East on June 10 .
Meanwhile, the Imphal East police have submitted a report to the Manipur Human Right Commission as directed by the commission.
