Imphal, July 10 2020:
Congress MLA Govindas Konthoujam has resigned from the membership of the Delimitation Commission.
The resignation letter was submitted to the Speaker on July 7.Speaking to media persons at his residence at Ningthoukhong today, he said he came across many reports that the delimitation based on the 2001 census will be conducted and reports that four Assembly Constituencies are likely to be removed from the valley.
These reports are causing great concern to all.
However the Government has not clarified on anything and by doing so, the Government has made the people feel that the delimitation will be carried out forcefully creating tension among the people, he said.
"Since the wishes of the people have not been considered, I no longer want to be a part of it and submitted my resignation on July 7 to the Speaker.
"The meaning of democracy is lost, laws are not followed, and in this situation my voice means nothing to them and also will not be given the chance to speak so there is no point in staying there representing the people".
The Commission is also distributed disproportionately with mostly BJP and Congress members nominated while NPP, NPF, LPG are excluded.
Again majority of the members are from BJP, he added.
