Festival of tree plantation celebrated in Tamenglong, Moreh

The 71st Van Mahotsav was celebrated at Indoor Stadium, Lower Ground Tamenglong district headquarters, today.
Awangbow Newmai, Minister of Forest, Environment and Climate Change; MH Khan, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, Environment and Climate Change; Namsinrei Panmei, Chairman, Autonomous District Council, Tamenglong attended the program as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the programme, Awangbow Newmai said that the outbreak of COVID 19 is very much related to climate change and ecological imbalance.
Twenty years ago we hardly cared about water reservoirs or conservation but today every village is facing water scarcity and even though we have water pipes and fitting equipment we are not able to find water now and the only solution for this issue is to protect forest areas and plant more trees, the Minister added.
Saying that at least two to three projects such as Hornbill conservation project, watershed project, honey bees project will also be implemented very soon, the chief guest sought support from the public, NGOs, civil societies to implement the planned projects in time.
Awangbow Newmai also appealed to the public of Tamenglong to help maintain and preserve forest areas.
Kereilhouvi Angami, PCCF and HoFF of the State Government, said that Van Mahotsav is celebrated not only to plant trees but also to preserve forest areas.
He also stated that Tamenglong district has the maximum cover of the forest areas as per a survey of the Central Government.
Around twenty thousand tree saplings were planted in Tamenglong district during the Van Mahotsava celebration week.
This year Van Mahotsav in Tamenglong district was jointly organised by the Forest Department, district administration Tamenglong and Rain Forest Club Tamenglong.
Moreh
Under the supervision of Tengnoupal Forest Division, Moreh Forest Range organised a tree plantation programme at S Moljol Village, today.
The programme was participated by DFO Tengnoupal Dr L Jeeceelee: RO of Moreh Forest Range, Ng Nandabir Singh and chief of S Moljol Village Lunkhojam Haokip.
Staff of Moreh Forest Range and personnel of 43 Assam Rifles also took part in the programme.
At the event, Dr L Jeeceelee appealed to the locals of S Moljol Village to take proper care of the saplings so that the observance could be made more meaningful.
