Iris scanner will replace biometric fingerprint: CEO

As Iris scanning requires no physical contact, it will replace biometric fingerprints to make health cards under Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), announced CEO State Health Agency Haulianlal Guite.
He said that RIMS hospital has implemented Iris scanner with 100% success rate and preparation to implement Iris scanners in Churachandpur District Hospital has also completed.
Beneficiaries of the District can now generate their AB-PMJAY cards in the hospital concerned through a contactless procedure in a safe manner.
Same facility will also soon be introduced in all empanelled hospitals across the State too.
Practice of Iris scanner instead of biometric fingerprinting has also started in Common Service Centres (CSCs) of Imphal West district.
Beneficiary of the concern districts can also generate their cards in the CSCs available in their localities.
It may be noted that Ayushman Bharat is a health scheme that provides free hospitalization of upto Rs 5 lakh per family for poor families.
