MLL joins Nationwide protest

Manipur Loumi Lup has today convened a protest meeting at 1 pm in solidarity to the Nationwide protest at Irabot Bhawan Complex.
The protest meeting organised by Manipur Loumi Lup in line with the Nationwide protest called by All India Kisan Sabha and Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union, was attended by L Sotinkumar, State secretary CPI (M); N Singhajit, president, Manipur Loumi Lup; S Nilakamal, working president, Manipur Loumi Lup; Radha Devi, vice president, Manipur Shillang Loumi Lup; Shanta, assistant secretary, Manipur Shillang Loumi Lup as presidium members.
The meeting which was held adhering to COVID-19 preventive measures raised many demands, said a statement of Manipur Loumi Lup (MLL).
The meeting demanded the Government to nullify anti-farmer ordinance to provide adequate urea fertilizer to tenant farmers, to increase the number of MGNREGS working days to 200 and raise the wages from Rs 202 to Rs 600, it said.
Demands to stop hike in prices of petrol and diesel, effective implementation of the National Food Security Act, removal of Ithai Dam to save Loktak Lake and compensation to people affected by the dam were also raised.
Furthermore, MLL demanded the Government to enhance irrigation facilities in the State, to register farmers and peasants apart from their demand to provide monthly pension worth Rs 10,000 to aged farmers (above 60 years and unable to work), free medical facilities to all affected by COVID-19 and free and compulsory education to all children up to 14 years.
The protest will be held in three phases till September 5, it said continuing that the first phase of the protest will be held till July 20 .
The second phase of the protest will be held from August 10 to 14 and the third phase will be held from September 1 to 5 .
