Imphal, November 06 2009:
The Secular Progressive Front (SPF) has rebuffed the allegations of corruption and others made against Chief Minister Okram Ibobi by BJP's North East in-charge Chandrasekhar Rao as baseless.
A press release issued by spokesperson of the SPF Government, N Biren asserted that making such unfounded statements was not new to BJP.
People of the North East region including Manipur are witnesses to the continuous attempts of BJP to keep the region backward and suppressed, Biren said.
During the time of BJP led Government at the centre, the people of Manipur were made to suffer to the extreme as neither salaries nor wages were paid, leave apart taking development works.
It was during the time of BJP that plots were hatched to stir communal conflict among different communities of the North East region who have been living in harmony since ages.
The June 18 episode which cost many innocent lives was a result of the BJP-led-Govt's insidious policy, the SPF spokesperson asserted.
Alleging that the BJP-led-Government did not fulfill even a single long-standing demand of the people of Manipur, N Biren said that BJP should be ashamed of the developmental changes brought about in Manipur under the leadership of Okram Ibobi.
BJP ought to appreciate the changes brought about by the Ibobi-led-Government in both the hills and valley of Manipur during the last 6/7 years.
The upgradation of Manipur University to a central university and opening of a regional centre of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University in Manipur would have caught BJP by surprise because BJP have never done anything good for the State and is unlikely in future too, Biren alleged.
The visible changes towards development witnessed in the State is because of proper utilisation of funds sanctioned by UPA Govt, Biren claimed.
Instead of blurting out irresponsible and baseless statements, the BJP functionary should have stated the truths having clear examples and proofs diplomatically, Biren added.
