Imphal, July 05 2012:
Although no complaints were received from the families of the three persons who were found murdered at Lakhijan in Karbi Anglong, Assam after they were abducted from Dimapur, police have been investigating into the case, stated Home Minister Gaikhangam.
Th Naobi alias Chingkhu of Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai, Thounaojam Prem alias Romen of Langol Laimanai and RK Roshan alias Ronald of Tera Sayang Pukhri Achouba Mapan were abducted by some unidentified persons from Dimapur on March 13, 2010 before their corpses were discovered in decomposed state at Lakhijan on March 21 the same year.
Following allegations that the trio were killed in a fake encounter, army chief General Vikram recently announced at Dimapur that the case would be investigated thoroughly.
Rising a call attention motion about the incident at the State Assembly today, MLA Dr I Ibohalbi asked if the State Government has any information about the army chief's announcement to probe into the incident.
Pointing out that the three persons hailed from Manipur and they were abducted from Dimapur before they were found murdered at Lakhijan which means three States are involved in the case, Dr Ibohalbi asked the Govt whether the case can be handed over to CBI for a conclusive enquiry.
Quoting reports that the three persons were arrested by the intelligence unit of 3 Corps during an operation at Rangapahar, Dimapur and they were brought to the officers' mess, the MLA claimed that cash and other articles were also seized from them.
Responding to the call attention motion, Home Minister Gaikhangam admitted that police are yet to establish the facts and circumstances of the killing.
The matter is being handled by the army's Court of Inquiry, he stated.
Maintaining that the matter is a very delicate one, Gaikhangam claimed that the Government has been working to gather detail information about the incident.
He stated that he would present a detailed report about the incident in the House after ascertaining the progress of the army's Court of Inquiry.
