Transport Policy drafted: Ratankumar

For effective management of the vehicles ever increasing on the roads, the Manipur Transport Policy has been drafted, Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar informed the House, while replying to a query raised by MLA L Nandakumar during the Question Hour session of Assembly today.
The Minister said that with increase in the number of vehicles plying on the roads of the state, the need for formulating a Transport policy was strongly felt by the state government.
Accordingly, the draft report of the policy has been made.
The Minister pointed out that at present there are around 3500 Auto Rickshaws plying in Imphal city and the parking slots for these Auto Rickshaws have been provided at 10 different locations.
Responding to another question raised by MLA RK Imo on the condition of NH 37 as well as between the road stretches from Sagolband to Tera, Minister Kh Ratankumar informed the House that following sanctioning of the works by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, e-tender has already been invited.
The deadline for completion of the road works is April 2014.However, the roads constructed under SPO have been completed.
Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro, while responding to a query raised by MLA M Prithiviraj, said that a number of High Schools, Primary Schools, Lower Primary Schools under Moirang A/C have been upgraded as well as downgraded.
The move was taken considering the decrease in the number of students in some schools, nearness of one school from another and also to increase the number of teachers according to requirement.
He further said that there is the possibility of providing free education to students right from pre- primary level to secondary level.
