K Shyam highlights role of returnees

CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam has opined that support of people returning from red zone areas and COVID patients is imperative to effectively combat COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
Speaking to media persons after receiving donations from different individuals for Langthabal Kendra COVID-19 Relief Fund during a simple function held at Langthabal Chajing Mairenkhong, the Minister said that though doctors, nurses, truckers, police personnel, CSOs' leaders and others are fighting the pandemic in the frontline, the most important task to slow or stop the transmission of the novel virus has to be done by people returning from different States, particularly red zone areas and people who are infected by the virus by following the safety norms laid down by the State Government and experts.
Saying that donations are pouring in from several Government employees, CSOs and individuals to ensure that there is no shortage of resources in arranging relief materials for the underprivileged and returnees lodged in quarantine centres, K Shyam continued about 34/35 individuals and groups have also donated exclusively to the Langthabal Kendra COVID-19 Relief Fund and thanked them for their kindness.
The Langthabal Kendra COVID-19 Relief Fund has so far spent about Rs 84.50 lakh in relief activities for COVID pandemic, including Rs 60 lakh from Local Area Development Fund, K Shyam added.
People who donated to the relief fund of Langthabal are Kharibam Ibomcha from Kakwa Naorem Leikai (Rs 2 lakh); Khumujam Helena from Singjamei Makha Sorokhaibam Leikai and her family (Rs 10,000).Volunteers of LJP also donated edible items to the relief fund.
