Imphal, June 17 2020:
Manipur has about 1.6 lakhs Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) who are eligible for free LPG refill for the months of April, May and June as announced by PM Narendra Modi, said sources adding home delivery service has been started by the distributors concerned.
The free LPG refill for the three months are being provided in view of COVID-19 pandemic, said the sources adding all beneficiaries should avail the opportunity.
Regarding the PMUY scheme, the sources claimed that a chunk of the beneficiaries don't refill again after the getting connection.
Despite the instruction of the authorities concerned not to disconnect the beneficiaries even if they don't refill, the sources claimed that beneficiaries get "blocked" automatically by the "system" if they don't refill for around 100 days.
About 68 per cent of the beneficiaries across India get their second refill at the end of a year, claimed the sources.
The distributors in the State are encountering many problems while contacting the beneficiaries to deliver the free refill for the months of April, May and June.
The distributors found many of the phone numbers the beneficiaries provided not in service, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the distributors and agents are giving priority on the delivering refills to the PMUY beneficiaries following the instruction of the Government and authorities concerned.
Even though priority is being given to the beneficiaries, the distributors have also starting providing services to regular customers.
There have been instances where delivery servicemen were allegedly attacked and harassed by suspected regular customers when they went to deliver refill to the PMUY beneficiaries, claimed the sources.
One LPG refill of 14.2 kg costs Rs 734.50 including delivery charge.
