COVID-19 cases in Manipur 77 more positive taking total to 618

Imphal, June 17 2020:
The State saw the sharpest rise in COVID-19 cases with 77 confirmed positive for the virus today.
With this increase, the total has reached 618.64 cases were detected at JNIMS while 13 were detected at RIMS.
A total of 617 samples were tested at JNIMS while 713 samples were tested at RIMS today.
However, the details and travel history of the 77 new cases are not known yet, said highly placed sources in the Health Department.
Meanwhile, earlier a statement of the COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesperson, and Additional Director (Health), Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar, had said that 52 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours (till 7 pm today) .
30 were detected at RIMS while 22 were detected at JNIMS.
Of the 52 cases, 32 are males and 20 are females.
They are from Ukhrul (20 cases), Bishnupur (10), Thoubal (6), Chandel (4), Kakching (4), Kangpokpi (4), Imphal West (2), Churachandpur (1) and Kamjong (1) .
To remove confusion regarding the figures of the cases, it is clarified that the figures provided by The Sangai Express include the figures provided by the COVID-19 Control Room and the latest cases.
According to the statement, the number of cases in the State has reached 552 with 360 active cases.
191 have recovered, improving the recovery rate to 34.78 percent.
In addition to the earlier test equipment and machines, RIMS now has two TrueNat machines while JNIMS has one.
With these machines, the State now has a capacity of testing 12,000 samples per day.
Problem of the backlog of samples may be solved soon, said sources.
Meanwhile, as many as 715 people entered the State via air today.
Following detection of the one case from among the inmates of those under quarantine at Boy's Block of Bishnupur Higher Secondary School, Deputy Commissioner Neeta Arambam has declared the centre a containment zone.
The schedule area (containment zone) includes District Agriculture Office, Bishnupur in East, Inter village road in West, Office of the Superintendent of Police in North and Khunurok in South.
