Kakching, June 17 2020:
Three black-shouldered kites (Elanus axillaris) rescued by one Naorem Bonison Meitei on May 18 last were released to a safe habitat, today.
Speaking to media persons after releasing the birds, Range Forest Officer N Munal Meitei said, "As the birds were too young at the time of rescuing (May 18) and as their mother was allegedly found dead, the three baby birds were handed over to Kakching Range Office.
The staff of Kakching Range Office then raised the birds for nearly a month".
Saying that the three birds were named Wuhan, COVID and Quarantine as they were rescued during the lockdown, he added that the rescued birds are fit enough to feed themselves now.
