Hepatitis C medicine to be distributed

Authorities of Gastroenterology, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Porompat will distribute medicines for the 2nd phase of free Hepatitis C treatment programme taken up by the hospital's Gastroenterology section under the initiative of its Assistant Professor (Gastroenterologist) Dr Suraj Nongthombam.
This was conveyed by Dr Suraj, Assistant Professor, Gastroenterology, JNIMS while speaking to reporters.
He said that patients should obtain JNIMS OPD tickets, reports of HCVRNA and routine laboratory test while coming to avail medicine which will be provided free of cost at JNIMS Medicine Endoscopy Room from 11 am to 2 pm on every Friday starting this month.
Saying that the medicines are limited for only 250 patients, the gastroenterologist went on to inform that the medicines will be distributed to the patients on first come first serve basis.
Further stating that the Hepatitis C medicines which will be distributed to the patients in need was donated by a US based pharmaceutical company called Gillead Pharma, he claimed that 100 patients have already reaped the benefits of the initiative in its 1 st phase this year.
