Thayong Kom tribe celebrates 235 years of settlement

Along with a scintillating presentation of their rise and birth, Kom tribe of Thayong on Saturday laid the memorial stone to mark 235 years of their peaceful settlement in the village.
The graceful occasion was attended by MLA of Lamlai Assembly Constituency Kshetrimayum Biren as chief guest.
The villagers of Thayong exercise their franchise under Lamlai Assembly Constituency though the village falls under the jurisdiction of Saikul Assembly Constituency.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Biren assured the villagers of Thayong that all developmental needs of the village would be looked after and the village roads would be blacktopped soon.
The MLA further assured that he would set up a water supply scheme at the village if there is a proper source of water.
Pipelines would also be laid to boost water supply in the village.
The village roads would be blacktopped from the local area development fund.
He also announced that the Napet Road would be upgraded as Napet-Andro highway for which he has proposed to the Chief Minister.

A large community hall would also be constructed for the villagers of Thayong, MLA Biren mentioned.
Furthermore, MLA Biren underlined the importance of preserving historical records and spread the message of peace and harmony among the villagers.
A souvenir of Thayong Kom Tribe was also released by him to mark the occasion.
HERICOUN president Mutum Churamani, who was also present, emphasized on preserving one's cultural identity and tradition even in this advanced era of science and technology.
He appealed to all communities to have the sense of oneness and brotherhood.
Komrem Union Manipur (NEI) president John L Karong stated that all people should strive to bring peace and harmony in the state.
The officer-in-charge of Lamlai Police Station Tejkumar, Sh Danshingkhup Konshai and other eminent personalities also attended the ceremony.
Songs and dances such as Direct Lam, Sakhung Lam and Waikhum Lam which depicted the rise and birth of Kom tribe were also shown during the stone laying ceremony.
The village elders and chieftains of Thayong were presented gifts during the ceremony.
Delivering the keynote address, S Michael stated that the Kom tribes have completed 230 years of existence at Thayong village.
Thayong Village had historical records of having close ties with the Royal Palace, he noted.
