Imphal, May 11 2013 :
Stating that people gave their mandate to Congress party by re-electing the party to power with absolute majority, MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam pledged that the Congress party would not do anything that may erode's faith and confidence in the party.
The party would always work keeping in view the wishes, aspiration and pulses of the people, he said.
Gaikhangam was speaking at a one day block level political workers' conference organised by Sagolband Block Congress Committee at Lainingthou Khamlangba community hall today.
After two successive terms during which Congress-led coalition Governments were in power, Congress party was re-elected with absolute majority enabling Congress party to form an exclusive Government of its own.
Election is not the sole region for the series of block level political conferences currently underway.
These political conferences are also aimed at giving detail information about the policies and programmes of the Congress Government, what it has done and what it is planning to do.
There may be many political parties in Manipur but the only party suited to the soil of Manipur is Congress.
That was why some parties could not get even a single candidate elected, Gaikhangam stated.
What turned out to be most surprising was the defeat of Congress candidates in some Assembly segments of Imphal when the party won absolute majority by capturing 42 seats, the MPCC president remarked.
Hill Areas Committee Chairman Dr Chaltonlien Amo who is also MPCC vice-president said that Congress party is in power in all the Autonomous District Councils as a result of the growing popularity of the party in hill districts.
Ex-MLA Dr Kh Loken said that he would put in his best efforts to complete projects/schemes left incomplete when was an MLA and also to rectify his mistakes and shortcomings.
