Site for Ukhrul court identified

Thousands of Ukhrul denizens today accorded warm welcome to the first Chief Justice of Manipur High court Abhay Manohar Sapre and his wife S.Lisa in their first ever visit to the district headquarters on an inspection tour of the site for setting up a district court complex.
During the inspection tour, the Chief Justice was accompanied by a host of dignitaries.
Sapre also inspected the present court office at the Mini Secretariat complex, Ukhrul.
Earlier, a warm reception was given to the Chief Justice and his wife by the district administration at the Multi-purpose hall, Ukhrul.
During the reception, DC in-charge of Ukhrul Luckyson Kashungnao delivered the welcome address and highlighted the topography of the district and its tourist attractions including state flower Shirui Lily, which is grown in the Shirui hills of the district.

It was followed by an impressive skit performed by UBC Youth on the theme of transformation of Tangkhuls from head hunter days to the present and presentation of folkdances by cultural troupes from Hungpung village.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre observed that he had never expected such affectionate welcome as his staffs have not informed him anything about the reception function by the district administrator and the Ukhrul Bar Association.
He said that that the purpose of his visit is to choose an ideal site for establishment of the district court complex of Ukhrul district so as to reach out justice to everyone.
After the reception function, the Chief Justice and his team comprising Principal Secretary (Work & relief and Disaster management) Ram Muivah (IAS); Deputy Law Secretary Nungshitombi, Registrar S.Serto, Judge Manoj Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Justice Alex Muivah; SE of PWD Hemanta, Senior Advocate Krishna Kumar Sharma and Government Prosecutor Reisang Ramung; DC in-charge Ukhrul; CJM Ukhrul Pemmila; SP i/c Ukhrul Worngam and other DLOs headed for site inspection at three places, namely the oldest heritage building of SDO office, Old district Jail at Hongva and Hungphung village.
After the inspection, the team was unanimous that the ideal site for establishment of district court would be the old Jail area, which is located along the national highway 150, just 3 kms away from heart of Ukhrul town.
The Chief Justice inspected the old court campus of Ukhrul and directed for immediate renovation of the office for proper functioning of the district court before a new court building is established and gave necessary advice for doing the needful in this regard to EE Ukhrul Prem Luikham.
Taking advantage of the visit of the Chief Justice, the District Lawyers' Association submitted a memorandum pressing for establishment of the district court at the earliest possible.
The Chief Justice also assured that all the cases related to the district would surely be transferred after setting up of the district court.
