Blaming negligence of a doctor for the death of a patient, enraged mob today stormed JNIMS hospital demanding fitting action against the erring doctor.
However, no untoward incident has been reported following a pre-emptive measure taken up by Porompat police and Imphal East police commandos.
According to family source, Karam Bishorjit (40) s/o Rajo of Kongba Kshetri Leikai went to consult doctors at JNIMS OPD with his wife yesterday around 10am over throat complication.
A doctor attending Bishorjit advised him for a minor surgery as his tonsil became a bit large.
Bishorjit died around 9.30pm yesterday after a surgery was being conducted on his throat as per the advice of the doctor.
The doctor told the family that Bishorjit died of heart attack, the family members said.
Peeved on hearing that Bishorjit had died after the surgery, locals of Kongba Kshetri Leikai where the deceased hailed, stormed JNIMS hospital today demanding fitting punishment against the concerned doctor.
However, a team of Porompat police led by OC Chandrakumar foiled the mob.
An enquiry committee, comprising high level officials of the Health dept, was reportedly instituted to probe the matter after Thongju AC MLA Th Bishorjit intervened.
