Five houses dismatle over land dispute

Five houses have been dismantled, a Tata Tripper set ablaze and a Gypsy demolished over land dispute at Marangching under Tamenglong district.
The acts of vandalism and arson started since December 21 and continued till this evening.
Meanwhile, 8 Assam Rifles posted at Noney allegedly thrashed 4 women protesters identified as Lancchalun Gangmei, Khonthlu Gangmei, Shimthailu Gangmei and Kambuiluilu Riamei, today for stopping AR personnel from entering Marangching.
Following the volatile situation in the area over the dispute, the District Magistrate Tamenglong, in an attempt to contain the violence, had imposed restrictions on the area under CRPC 144 since December 21 and locked up youth president of five villages, Gongchalung Gangmei, members of the JAC constituted in regard to the dispute stated.
The disputed area is known as Chakhang Lao and the dispute erupted after Thonkhulung claimed it as his property which was subsequently followed by attacks on villagers by mercenaries hired by Thonkhulung.
The JAC warned that they would launch various forms of agitation including prohibition on the railway work if the arrested Gongchalung is not released at the earliest.
The houses dismantled in the act belonged to Thonkhulung Gangmei, Ningolung Gangmei, James Gangmei, Gaithandin Gangmei and Sikkhai Gangmei.
