Awareness prog on lemon grass cultivation held

In connection with the ongoing drive of planting lemon grass on the hill ranges of Yairipok Top Chingtha under the Make in Manipur Mission, an awareness programme was held today at Yairipok Top Chingtha at the residence of one Keisham Ningthemjao.
Extensive plantation of lemon grass is being carried out at Yairipok Top Chingtha over an area of 210 acres under the aegis of the Aromatic and Medicinal Plants Development Centre, Bishnupur.
Speaking at the awareness programme, MPCC member Keisham Ningthemjao said the programme of lemon grass plantation is being taken up with the objective of alleviating economic condition of the people of Andro A/C.The mission would last for 20 days and it is aimed at enabling each household of Top Chingtha earn Rs 24000 per month.
Leaves of lemon grass would used for extracting oil and the left-over leaves would be processed into green tea.
He went on to clarify that the mission has no relation with electoral politics.
He said that he paid wages to people working under the mission in view of the difficulties faced by public due to non-release of wages by the Government in time.
