22nd Guru Kirtana Seva begins

Although Manipur is a tiny State, its excellence in the fields of culture and sports has earned international fame, Dy CM Gaikhangam said.
The Dy CM was speaking as the chief guest of the inaugural function of 22nd Guru Kirtana Seva, 2015 (festival of Nat Sakirtana) at the premises of Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound today.
The event was organised by Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy, Kwakeithel Nganappithong Mapal.
Gaikhangam stressed the need to promote culture to the higher level.

He also lauded the achievements of Rajshree Bheigyachandra in the field of art and culture.Observing that youth of today lack interest in Nata Sankirtan, the Dy CM encouraged the youth to promote the art form with the able guidance of Gurus and teachers.
Amongst others, the inaugural session of the festival was attended by MLA Laisom Ibomcha and convener of Manipuri Language Advisory Board, New Delhi, Huirem Bihari as the president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA L Ibomcha said extending pension benefits to above 65 years of age Nata Sankirtan artistes would go a long way in promoting the art form as well as the artistes.
He urged the Govt to take initiative to provide pension to artistes.
