Imphal, October 26 2015:
Anti-AFSPA crusader, Irom Chanu Sharmila has expressed strong disappointment over the alleged 'lack of support' from people of the State in her struggle to repeal the Armed Forces Special Power Act.
Sharmila was speaking to reporters after appearing before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West regarding a case taken up against her under 309 IPC.
She was taken to the Court in an ambulance from the Security Ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) where she is presently lodged in Judicial custody.
The Court later fixed November 9 for the next hearing.
Coming out from the Court, Sharmila said that she felt very disheartened that not a single supporter was there in the Court complex.
She also said that trial case against her is in a crucial stage.
She said she needs mass support from various sections of the people.
Sharmila rued that she only gets people's support for her cause only in words.
Not a single support from the mass to her cause is coming when she needs it the most.
The trial today was conducted in connection with the charge sheet filed before the Court by the City Police Station a few months back after Sharmila was remanded to judicial custody for staging an indefinite hunger strike protest at Shamu Makhong on January 22 this year.
She was formally arrested by the City Police from JNIMS Security ward under FIR number 12(1) 2015 City Police Station under 309 IPC on January 24 .
It may be mentioned that Sharmila was twice released from Judicial custody by the Sessions Court, Manipur East and JMIC, Imphal East after both the Judges found lack of evidence against the charges levelled against her during the trials in their respective Court.
