Memorandum submitted

The United Tribal People's Council Manipur (UTPCM) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding the appointment of a Director to the Agriculture Department from among the senior most technical official/Agri scientists at par with technical officials of Horticulture Department for effective Directorate and implementation of various schemes and other farmer's activities in the State.
The memo claimed that the present Director of the said Department, due to many official works allocated in various other administrative departments as Joint Secretary, hardly have time to fully dedicate to the Department since the early part of this year.
It explained that the nature of works in the Agri Department also involves lots of technical and scientific know-how for presentation and implementation of modern advanced technology in the fields of the farmers and schemes and added that it (UTPCM) is not satisfied with the present functioning and implementation of various schemes such as the PM doubling the farmers' income by 2022 and other farmer oriented programmes in the said Department.
Furthermore, the line of promotion of Senior Agri officials to the post of Director has been denied, it added.
As such, it appealed to the Government to do the needful at the earliest and cautioned that if the Government fails to fulfil the demand of the association within 5 days, it will be forced to resort to democratic forms of agitation.
