Imphal, December 19 2019:
As the quest of the ruling MLAs for a complete reshuffle of the Council of Ministers gains momentum, BJP North East in-charge Ajay Jamwal landed here today and held meetings at different levels.
Notably, many of the ruling MLAs have been staying away from the ongoing Assembly session demanding complete replacement of the incumbent Ministers of the coalition Government.
A representation signed by 18 ruling MLAs and submitted to the Chief Minister set a deadline of January 15 to drop all the incumbent Ministers and replace them with MLAs who have never been given any Ministerial portfolio so that BJP can secure absolute majority in the next State Assembly election which is due in 2022 .
In connection with the ruling MLAs' demand, Chief Minister N Biren held a meeting with his Council of Ministers today.
However, it could not be ascertained whether the meeting adopted any resolution.
A few days back, a number of ruling MLAs held a meeting and decided on replacement of all incumbent Ministers and the same decision was apprised to BJP general secretary (North East in-charge) Ram Madhav.
Even as Chief Minister N Biren assured Ministry reshuffle to the ruling MLAs after the ongoing Assembly session is over, many of the Ministers contended they were appointed as Ministers by the Centre, not by the Chief Minister.
The ruling MLAs demanded the Chief Minister to replace at least three Ministers before the Assembly session but there was no reshuffle.
Aggrieved by this, the MLAs decided to stay away from the Assembly session.
Meanwhile, Ajay Jamwal talked with many leaders of BJP before holding a meeting with ruling MLAs this evening.
