Patient party goes on rampage in Raj Polyclinic over death of girl

An angry patient party on Saturday went rampaged and rained stones and missiles at Raj Polyclinic hospital in Imphal over the death of a 5-year-old girl, breaking glass walls of the hospital's counter and blaming the doctors for the death.
Jenit Shahani, daughter of Sheraj, a resident of Hatta Minuthong died at about 8:30 am today after undergoing treatment at Raj Polyclinic hospital since yesterday.
She was admitted to the private hospital around 3:30 p.m.yesterday after having complaint of stomacache, her family told reporters.
Soon after her admission there, the doctors administered her medicines and told the family that Jenit needed blood as her hemoglobin level was tested too low.
They then gave the necessary blood to the doctors around 6 p.m.last evening.
However, the blood was tranfused to her around 4:30 a.m.Saturday, they family claimed.
She died around 8:30 a.m., the family said and made allegations that the doctors there had checked her condition only once during the over 24 hour period of her staying at the hospital, saying they did not take her seriously and that there was a delay in the transfusion of the blood.
Her relatives, including who were outside the hospital went rampaged as the news of her death reached them, throwing stones and missiles at the hospital when some glass walls of the hospital's counter was broke.
Police arrived at the site on time and managed to control the crowd.
Later, Ksh Dinesh, manager of the hospital while talking to the media ruled out any negligence on the part of the doctors, saying Jenit's hemoglobin level was down at 4 against 14 which is normal level.
He said the hospital authority would look into the matter if the doctors committed any wrong.
However, the family and hospital authority later in the late afternoon brought an agreement over the matter following which the body has been claimed by the family.
