HC disposes of writ petition

The High Court of Manipur has disposed of a writ petition filed by former Minister Bijoy Koijam seeking to retain houseguard and escort of 4th IRB yesterday.
Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar heard the petition filed against Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, DGP Manipur, SP Imphal West and Commandant 4th IRB.
The Court ordered that the petitioner's representation seeking to retain house guard cum escort be considered by the competent authorities on its own merits expeditiously.
During the hearing yesterday, the petitioner, Bijoy Koijam claimed that he is a former Minister, elected from Thongju AC in the year 2002 and held several posts in the Government.
In September 1995, he was attacked by a group of armed assailants while he was working as a journalist.
He had suffered bullet injuries and was treated at JNIMS hospital that time.
It was further submitted that in 2008, some unknown extremists hurled a hand grenade at his house after he became MLA and also mentioned that a Chinese made hand grenade was kept at his residence in 2012 .
Another attempt was also made by unknown persons to plant an IED bomb at his residence, he submitted.
The petitioner also claimed that he is presently the president of Manipur National Democratic Front (MNDF) and claimed that there has been extortion demands served by certain underground groups.
In 2017, there was an explosion near his residence, he submitted.
The Court after hearing both sides passed the order that the petitioner's representation seeking to retain house guard cum escort be considered by the competent authorities on its own merits expeditiously and disposed of the petition.
