Semi low floor bus service in bazar area from today

Days after the market areas of Paona and Thangal Keithel were made pedestrian zones in order to ease traffic congestion, the Transport Department has come up with the idea of Semi Low Floor Bus services in the two market areas to give transport facilities to commuters.
Announcing the decision in a press conference held at the Conference Hall of SP Imphal West, Principal Secretary of Transport, Ram Muivah told reporters that the decision to introduce Semi Low Floor Bus Services in the two market areas was made in order to provide transport facilities after the areas have been converted into pedestrian zone.
The service will be provided for a period of one month starting from tomorrow as trial.
He further said that two buses will begin their services from 10 am till 4 pm everyday.
Every passenger will be charged Rs 5 but tomorrow, the first day, the commuter can take a ride for free.
The fare collected from the passengers will be used by Traffic Control Police for maintenance of the buses.
Profit will be credited to the Transport Department.
If the trial service of the Transport Department is successful, the number of buses will be increased so as to meet the increased volume of passengers, he said.
The decision to introduce the bus service was taken in a meeting held earlier today at the office of Transport Department which was attended by Transport Minister K Ranjit, PDA Chairman Kh Loken, Commissioner MAHUD Sundarlal, Principal Secretary of Transport Ram Muivah and DSP Traffic Control Police Y Victoria.
DSP Victoria said that one bus will be parked at beginning of Paona Keithel near Keishampat while the other will be parked at Khuyathong.
They will begin their services from 10 am and will pass through the bazar area .
There will be more than 10 parking spots in the two markets from where passengers can get in or get down from the buses.
The two buses will continue their services till 4 pm without any break.
MAHUD Director Geetkumar, IGP Lange (1) Kailun and Deputy Director of Transport Shivadas also attended the press conference.
