Imphal, August 11 2018:
The Imphal Evening which was launched with much elan on October 2 last year with a view to provide time and space for recreation and refreshment on Saturdays and Sundays is likely to be shifted to Palace Compound, Imphal East.
At present, the road from Raj Bhavan to Khoyathong serves as the venue for Imphal Evening.
Notably, the same road forms a section of Imphal-Dimapur highway.
Even though, a large number of people came out to enjoy Imphal Evening during the initial days, the number of people who come to Imphal Evening these days has declined considerably.
Correspondingly, a number of stalls have been shut down.
Now, only a limited number of stalls open on these Evenings.
Nonetheless, Imphal Evening causes hindrance to traffic flow on the highway.
With a view to attract more visitors, evening cinema shows have been screened on Saturdays and Sundays at the MFDC auditorium even though the main venue is the Kanglapat road from Raj Bhavan to Khoyathong.
Recently, the State Government received a proposal from Art and Culture Department for shifting Imphal Evening to Palace Compound along the Hapta Kangjeibung road citing the cinema shows screened at MFDC, hindrance caused to traffic flow on Imphal-Dimapur highway and reduced attendance, informed a source.
