Senapati, August 11 2018:
Making their stand clear, ATSUM, ANSAM and KSO have underlined that the ongoing total shutdown in the hill districts is not related with the demand to remove or retain Professor Pandey as the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, but is an expression of concern over the future of the students, who have been deprived of their rights by the ongoing shutdown of MU.
Speaking to media persons today, finance secretary of ATSUM Andria Sinruwng said that MU has been shut down for more than 70 days following the demand to remove Pandey from the post of VC by MUSU, MUTA and MUSA.
ATSUM had persistently asked both Central and State Governments as well as the agitators to resolve the university impasse and given an ultimatum to open the varsity before August 6 considering the career of more 28,000 students in the State, he added.
As the MU impasse lingered, ATSUM along with ANSAM and KSO-GHQs imposed the 48 hour total shutdown in the Hill districts of Manipur, he said and urged the agitators and the Government to end the impasse otherwise, the future of thousands of students will be lost.
The student bodies also warned to intensify their agitation and reminded that tribals are also stake holders in Manipur University.
Sacrificing the future of the students would be too expensive, said the tribal student bodies and urged all to let the university function.
