Imphal, December 06 2020:
Reacting to news item published under the title 'Land Dispute' on December 3 edition of this paper, the Lembakhul Development Council (LDC) has maintained that Kingson Chithung, who identified himself as the 'headman of Lembakhul' is not the headman of the said village.
LDC in a statement, expressed shock over the news and said that Kingson Chithung was not even a member of the village authority or the LDC of the village.
The village is administered by hereditary kingship carrying forward the customary practises of the Tangkhul community, said LDC while adding that the present, headman of the village is Khuishim Chithung, son of (L) Amo Chithung.
Khuishim Chithung attained the chiefship of the village by way of hereditary transfer from his deceased father and the Additional Chief Secretary, Tribal Affairs and Hills has issued an order to that effect on December 23, 2019 and the same has been published in the Manipur Gazette on December 31, 2019, it said.
Moreover, Lembakhul village has nothing to do with the matter pertaining to land dispute between Chanam Sandrok and Thiyam, said LDC.
It also said Kingson Chithung's submission to the media in a press conference for a 'land dispute outside the village' without any knowledge or authorization from the LDC, was totally false and uncalled for.
Lembakhul and Chanam Sandrok have no land dispute and these two villages have been coexisting peacefully since time immemorial, it said.
It was immature and illegal on his part to employ even the name of the Court, LDC continued while demanding Kingson Chithung to tender an apology through local dailies regarding the matter.
If he fails to tender an apology, he should take responsibility for any untoward incidents occurring out of his statements in the press conference held by him, said LDC which also asserted that he is liable for punishment in accordance with law and fine.
