Storm leaves behind trail of destruction

Imphal, May 03, 2013:
The violent hailstorm that swept across Churachandpur town in the morning today has left behind a trail of destruction.
More than 50 residential houses, school and church buildings have been destroyed in the storm.
Many schools in town area also remained shut down today following the devastating storm.
The school buildings of Radhakrishnan Foundation School, Young Pillar High School and Salvah Model School in Tuibuang area, and an MELC church building have been destroyed by the storm.
In Churachandpur A/C alone, more than 50 residential buildings have been destroyed.
Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing's son Khanthang Tonsing today visited the affected families of Churachandpur A/C areas.
The power supply line in Churachandpur town has also remained cut since last night.

The storm also played havoc in different parts of Jiribam Sub-division of Imphal East district.
Many trees have been uprooted and fallen on the roads in Sonapur, Agalpur Chingdong Leikai, Katamtala, etc.
Most interestingly, the newly constructed Indoor Stadium of Jiri College has been completely flatten in the storm, thus indicating lack of quality control in the construction work.
