IETE sub-centre upgraded

The Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) Imphal Sub-Centre has been upgraded to a full- fledged centre from today.
The inaugural function of upgradation of IETE Imphal Centre-cum-2-day Zonal Seminar under the theme "Cyber Crime and its Solution: Terrain Based NE Region" was held at IETE Complex, Lamphel here.
Chief guest of the function, Gaikhangam, Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, said that the Government of India, Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Scientific & Industrial Research has notified IETE as an educational institution of National Eminence and it is indeed a great moment of joy for the people of Manipur.
He said IETE Imphal Sub-Centre which was established in 1993 under Guwahati Centre has been upgraded to a full-fledged centre and though apart from contributing to the generation of technical manpower for conducting compact programmes of AMIETE and DipIETE students, Imphal Sub-Centre produces more than 245 AMIETE and DipIETE in the field of electronics, telecommunications, information technology, computer science engineering and most of them are well placed.
Gaikhangam further said, "With the upgradation of the IETE Imphal centre, it would meet the challenges of growing technical advancement adding computer is becoming an integral part of our daily life".
Computer based crimes are a growing trend, the Deputy CM said and added that these are the complex cyber crimes existing today, some of which are through spam, obscenity, drug trafficking, cyber warfare, etc.
The function was also attended by Surendra Pal, president, IETE, New Delhi as functional president and RK Gupta, immediate past president and chairman, Diamond Jubilee Celebration, Dr M Basavaraj, vice president and chairman, M & CC, Brig (Dr) VD Abraham, SM, zonal coordinator (East), IETE, P Saikia, chairman Guwahati Centre, H Kulachandra IPS, chairman Organizing Committee as guests of honour respectively.
