Part time lecturers stage sit-in-protest

Demanding implementation of Central 6th Pay Commission recommendation and to recognize them as regular Assistant Professors, Part-time lecturers working in different Govt colleges staged a mass sit-in-protest demonstration at the gate of GP Women's College here today.
The protest demonstration was staged under the aegis of All Manipur College Part Time Lecturers' Welfare Association.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, Sadique Rehman, General Secretary of All Manipur College Part Time Lecturers' Welfare Association, pointed out that even though Part Time Lecturers are assigned duties just like full time lecturers, the amount of the salary given to them is hardly 1/4th of the salary drawn by full time lecturers.
He further informed that there are some colleges where the entire workload is entrusted to the part time lecturers' in spite of the meager amount of salary given to them.
It may be noted here that in pursuance of their demands, the aggrieved part time lecturers working in different colleges under the Government of Manipur have been launching agitation in the form of wearing black badges April 25 to 30 and the mass sit-in-protest demonstration has begun from today.
The agitated part time lecturers have also warned of intensifying their agitation from May 10 if the State Government and its concerned authority failed to fulfill their demands by then.
