With the help of Hueiyen Lanpao, volunteers of People for Animal (PFA), Thoubal unit successfully rescued a displaced barking deer from Moirang Kokibon Leikai on May 1.
In this connection, Managing Trustee of PFA Thoubal L Biswajeet Meitei said as informed by Hueiyen Lanpao around 9 am on May 1, volunteers of PFA Thoubal immediately moved to Moirang Kokilbon Leikai and rescued the displaced barking deer.
The villagers were found doing their best for the poor animal along with administering OR solution and applying bamboo splinters to support the broken left hind limb of the deer.
Secretary of Kokilbond Sporting Club,Moirang told the PFA team that the deer was found wandering near a pig sty inside the village.
The deer frantically ran about and fell into a water reservoir kept for fish farming.
The villagers felt pity on it and after removing from the water, handed over the deer to the club.
It was found that hind limb of the deer had been broken while falling into the water reservoir.
In order to save the poor animal, Club members informed the staffs of Keibul Lamjao National Park.
But the staffs then told them that they have informed zoo staff and they would arrive soon.
So, the villagers waited impatiently as they couldn't bear to hear moaning cry of the injured deer.
As no one came even after a long wait, the Club members again inquired about the arrival of the authority.
But they were advised to take the deer to the state zoo themselves.
The villagers felt disgusted and so one of them informed Hueiyen Lanpao about the deer and the staff of the newspapers immediately relayed the message to PFA for rescuing the deer.
The angry villagers have appealed to the authority concerned to let them know whom to contact when such situation arise.
Biswajeet has pointed out that the problem faced by displaced wild animals is not rare in this time of the year as the hillocks were usually set fire by unknown people.
