Imphal, May 03, 2013:
Highlighting extreme shortage of power and water supply in Churachandpur town, several woman organisations of the district have urged the Chief Minister to ensure uninterrupted power supply and sufficient drinking water supply to the denizens of the district on priority basis.
A joint memorandum has been submitted to the CM in this regard by several women's bodies such as Churachandpur Joint Women Organisation, Zomi Mother Association, Hmar Women Association, Mizo People's Convention (Womens' Wing), Kuki Women Union and Ima Leimaren Apunba Lup.
The memo pointed out that there has been four hours of power in a day and greater part of the town is unable to reap the benefits of the Govt's water supply schemes, adding that most of the private ring-wells are unfit for human consumption.
The memo contended that such pitiable conditions have directly or indirectly affected the health and well-beings of the people.
Conveying frustration and helplessness of the people of the district who have been hopelessly waiting for the benefits of Khuga multipurpose project over 40 years, the women bodies also categorically questioned whether the people of the district truly deserve to be part and parcel of the State if such facilities are not extended to the town.
