Training on 'Promotion of Spices in North East' held

One day training programme on 'Promotion of Spices in North East under North Eastern Hill (NEH) Component' was organized by the College of Agriculture under the guidance of Prof Indira Sarangthem, Dean in collaboration with the Director of Research, CAU, Imphal Dr S Basanta Singh today.
The programme is funded by ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, Kerala through virtual/hybrid mode at College of Agriculture, CAU at Iroisemba, said a statement.
On this occasion, Dr S Basanta Singh and Prof UC Singh, College of Agriculture, Imphal emphasized on the importance and scope of spices in the region.
Spices are used as an immune booster during this COVID-19 pandemic and it is an indispensable ingredient for the daily appetite and protection from other various ailments.
The training is focused on to promote spices in the region particularly in Manipur in terms of area, production, productivity, economy and health of mankind.
During the technical session, Dr Ps Mariam Anal, Assistant Professor cum Nodal Officer for Promotion of Spices in North East under NEH Component, Dr Kh Ibohal Singh, Associate Prof and Dr Bireswer Sinha, Assistant Prof explained in detail about the production technology, management of insect-pests and diseases of King chilli.
Altogether fifty five farmers of six villages from four districts of Manipur namely Bishnupur, Imphal East, Ukhrul and Kamjong participated through virtual/hybrid mode.
Planting materials of King chilli seedlings, plant protection chemicals, sprayers and fertilizers were distributed to the farmers.
