Work begins to convert Umathel CHIC into CCC

With number of Covid-19 positive cases rising in Kakching district, especially in Sugnu AC, Sugnu MLA K Ranjit is taking up necessary measures to upgrade the Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) set up for the constituency at JNC Umathel into a Covid Care Centre with a capacity of 100 beds.
The MLA along with Kakching DC D Gangmei, CMO Dr Thaodem Rajen, SP Victoria Yengkhom, SDO (Waikhong) Abujam Romen and district nodal officer for contact tracing Dr Kiran Elangbam visited the CHIC on Thursday and inspected the infrastructure development work being taken up there for upgrading into a CCC.
The MLA also donated Rs 1.5 lakh to DC Kakching to add further requirements to make it a fully functional and well-equipped CCC.
Speaking to media, MLA Ranjit informed that the CCC will have 15 staff and they have already been inducted by the DC through public notification.
All necessary infrastructure will be installed at the centre.
Though the institution has a capacity of 254, the actual capacity for the CCC will be 100 beds.
However, there will be room for expansion as per requirement, after consulting with the health department and district administration, he added.
The MLA also donated PPE suits, face shield, hand gloves, hand sanitisers and face masks to staff members of Sub-District Hospital Sugnu, Serou PHC, Wangoo Laipham CHC and Kakching Khunou PHC.
He also donated protective gears to local Covid Task Forces of different localities in Sugnu AC .
