Imphal, June 17 2021:
The Karang Island Development Organisation (KIDO) has expressed suspicion of people in power misappropriating funds amounting to over Rs 40 lakh released under Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY) scheme 2019-20 for the development of Karang village.
In a video message, KIDO advisor, Haobijam Geetajain Meitei claimed that the amount was released by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, following the declaration of Karang village as a model village.
He further said that the development project is also to cover Champu Kangpok village, a floating village which is a part of Karang village.
The fund was released under the Centrally sponsored scheme to ensure access to potable water and Wifi, repair roads, instal solar lamps and upgrade hospital and school infrastructure in the village.
Speaking about the Wifi facility, Geetajain said that the service is yet to be available in Karang.
Further stating that two motor boat ambulances were given for the people of Karang village, but in whose custody the ambulances are being kept and to whom they were handed over are still not known, he added that the organisation has also not come across any notification for the appointment of the ambulance drivers.
It is also confirmed that the two ambulances are used vehicles and one of them has no documents, he added.
Saying that the High Court has issued a notification to all concerned pertaining to this issue, he added it would be really disheartening if the fund is misappropriated.
