Prof Tomba calls for elevating Manipur University

Asserting that Manipur University has the potential to become one of the prestigious universities in the country, Prof Kh Tomba, Dean of Students Welfare, MU encouraged Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) to play a constructive role in addressing grievances encountered by the student community.
He was speaking at the handing and taking over ceremony for the newly elected office bearers of MUSU held today at its office inside the university campus.
Presiding over the ceremony, Prof Tomba maintained that though tenure for office bearers of the students' union is only 1 year, they can make a huge difference in regular conduct of class and examination and activities related to maintenance of a proper academic environment in the university.
The Prof said that as the Dean of Students Welfare, his works are related to apprising the authority concerned of the university about the welfare of its students and organising youth festival, cultural festival and career guidance besides informing the Chief Proctor about disciplinary of the students.
He observed that the inability of the university to maintain academic calendar can be reduced to about 90 percent if MUSU holds its election in the month of November.
He gave former office bearers of the union the credit for holding its recent election without any violence.
Outgoing president of MUSU, Mayanglambam Buchi said that the biggest achievement of the union has been the maintenance of a peaceful academic atmosphere in the university.
He said that it is easy to trigger agitations or movements but working tirelessly for maintenance of a peaceful academic atmosphere in an university is a big challenge.
He reminded that MUSU spearheaded the movement for exerting pressure on the authority concerned to remove the Assam Rifles post from the university campus.
In this regard, the Chief Minister had announced publicly that steps for removing the AR post from the university campus will be taken up from August 30 last, he added.
He expressed hope that the new office bearers of the union would work for betterment of the university.
He also exuded confidence that Manipur University will be included amongst the best top 100 universities in the country in the days to come.
Newly elected president of MUSU, Mayanglambam Dayaman assured that he would abide by the constitution of the union and discharge his duty for welfare of the university.
He appealed to the students to support the union in its endeavours.
On the occasion, outgoing office bearers and class representatives of MUSU handed over charge to the newly elected ones for the term 2017-18 .
