Imphal, December 28 2017:
Ex-Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has said that it would not be right for a Chief Minister to do as he/she wishes and it is the duty of the Congress Party, as the Opposition, to point out the mistakes or areas that need improvements for the betterment of the society and the State.
Speaking to media persons at the 133rd foundation day of Indian National Congress, organised at Manipur Congress Bhavan under the aegis of MPCC, O Ibobi said that a Government or the Chief Minister cannot exploit any property, assets, integrity and developmental works of the State or the country as these things belong to the people as a whole and not just the Ministers or the Government.

He claimed that ever since the country attained independence, other political parties were able to form Governments only for brief periods.
If the BJP's claim that they brought development to the country, transformed India into a super power and advanced the space programme or improved the country's economy during its paltry 9 to 10 years rule of the country, then they are no lesser than god, he mocked.
Stating that the BJP cannot fool the people by making preposterous, claims and statements, O Ibobi said that the Congress party workers need not feel demoralized nor de-motivated and added that unity and team work are critical for bringing development in the State.
Clarifying about the claims that the relations between the hills and the valley have improved considerably after the new State Government came to power as compared to the time of the previous Government, the ex CM asked if there was any instance or case when mere was any glaring divide between the hills and the valley in the State.
During the elections, the people of the hills gave most of their votes to the Congress party as they to trusted the party, he claimed.
While welcoming any steps to point out the mistakes and faults of the previous State Government, Ibobi warned the new Government that it cannot do anything as it pleases.
The Congress Government defied some organisations' attempt to do as they please.
The real owner of a land is the Government and not the hill people nor the valley people.
The Congress party's works might have angered some sections or organisations.
But the Congress party did not do anything to create a gap between the hills and the valley and neither was there any disconnect between the people, he added.
Speaking at the event, ex-Deputy CM, Gaikhangam Gangmei said that the Congress party is an old party which has a significant place in the history of the country.
He expressed disappointment that a party which reared its head recently is now claiming all the developmental projects and works done by the Congress party as its own.
The BJP's rule will collapse sooner than later if they continue with their ploy, he said.
MPCC President TN Haokip, many MLAs, ex-MLAs and distinguished party leaders were also present at the event.
