Joykumar seeks to preserve indigenous culture of State

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh has asserted it is high time to co-operate each other to preserve and protect indigenous culture of the State.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of the 3rd Singju Festival 2018 held today at Lamdeng Makha Leikai Lampak in Imphal West district.
Addressing the gathering, Joykumar said that Singju is one of the most unique food stuffs especially for Meiteis as it is a mixture of many fresh and raw vegetables.
He said that since time immemorial the State has been inhabited by people belonging to different cultural backgrounds.
Stating that organising such festival will showcase the uniqueness of cultural pluralism of the State, he said that we all need to co-operate each other to promote the unity in diversity in the State.
He also lauded the steps made by the Festival Organising Committee to showcase indigenous cultural items like Likon Sanaba, Mukna, Kang and Arambai as part of the festival.
Maintaining that the Government is fully committed to ensure development in all aspects, Joykumar called upon the people to expedite ways to commission Solid Waste Management Project at Lamdeng at the earliest to improve water supply facility in the area.
Chairman of the Festival Organising Committee, Dr S Manoaton Singh said that Singju Festival is not only a food festival but it is an occasion to reflect an ethical idea and foster unity in the State.
To develop an emotional integrity, we all need to co-operate each other, he added.
Taking part in the function, ex-MLA W Brajabidhu Singh spoke on the importance of maintaining unity in the State.
A number of events like National film festival, Shumang Leela, blood donation camp, tree plantation and indigenous games like Mukna, Kang and Arambail etc will be presented during the 12 days long annual festival being organised by Singju Yokhatpa Lup (SYOL) in collaboration with local clubs and women associations of the area.
