Imphal, December 28 2017:
A committee would be constituted to examine old buildings located in and around Imphal city including those which are used as Government offices and check whether they can withstand earth-quakes.
PWD Chief Engineer (Building) N Noren informed that plans are afoot to constitute a committee to assess PWD buildings, school/college buildings, Government office buildings and other public buildings and check whether they can resist earthquakes.
Located in a highly active seismic zone, earthquakes are quite frequent in Manipur.
As such there is a growing need to check whether the old buildings can withstand earthquakes or not, Noren said.
He further informed that a proposal would be sent to the State Government to set up the committee.
