Senior citizens bat for MSHRC

The Senior Citizens for SoAdd Newciety Manipur has resolved to exert pressure on the authority concerned to revive the Manipur State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) .
Speaking to media persons, the society's secretary, Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani said that the resolution was taken in 12th annual general body meeting of the society which was held at Churachand Higher Secondary School on December 24 .
He said that MSHRC has been lying defunct for the last seven years.
Although a memorandum was submitted to the CM on June 22 this year to revive MSHRC, there has been no positive response from the Government.
The meeting also resolved to pressure the Central Government to amend Article 3 of the Indian Constitution by inserting a provision/clause that prior consent of the State Legislature of the affected States shall be mandatory before forming a new State or alteration of areas, boundaries or diminishing the area of any State or re-naming any States, he added.
Khaidem Mani stated that the meeting resolved to oppose any change to the inte- grity or unity of Manipur and its administrative setup at any costs on account of the peace talk going on between the Central Govern- ment and the NSCN (IM) .
Obituary reference and condolence were expressed on the demise of Campaign for Electoral Reforms in India founder MC Raj, Senior Citizen for Society Manipur life member and Sahitya Akademi translator awardee poet Laishram (O) Sanjembam Bhanumati, executive member Nignthoujam (O) Sougaijam Sarju and life member Arambam Rebecca Devi, in the meeting.
Dr N Sukumar Singh, retired Additional Director, Medical and Health Services, Manipur, Maulana Saheed Ahmad, president, Jamiatul Ulama, Manipur, Justice WA Shishak, retired Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court and Dr LS Gangte, retired vice Principal of Churachandpur College were honoured with cash incentives, a shawl, and a memento each.
An executive committee of the society was also formed and members were elected in the meeting.
Former Minister RV Mingthang was also elected as the working president of the society.
