Imphal, July 19 2020:
District Hospital Construction Demand Committee has urged the Government to resume construction of the main building of Imphal West District Hospital, Mayang Imphal by August.
While addressing the media here in Imphal today, Co-chairman of the demand committee, Ningthoujam Robindro said that the foundation stone of the hospital was laid in 2011 by the then Government and since then there has been hardly any progress in the construction work.
Fencing work of the hospital compound was done during 2012-2016 period but the construction work has been stalled completely with the formation of a new Government in 2017, he said.
Happy and contented over the announcement of a district hospital at Mayang Imphal, people had voluntarily contributed 7.5 acres of land for the construction of the hospital however their hope of availing treatment facility has turned out to be a distant dream as the construction work has been put on hold, he remarked.
Asserting that some people have even started rice cultivation inside the hospital premises as the authorities concerned have failed to pay attention, he also sought an explanation from the Health Minister on how the people were allowed to cultivate rice over the land which was allotted for construction of a hospital.
If the construction work is not resumed by August, the committee along with the people of Mayang Imphal will launch a series of agitations, he warned.
