Imphal, October 06 2014:
Demanding the abolition of the Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board (3rd Amendment) Bill, the Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) has decided to bar entry of Ministers and MLAs to Umanglai (sylvan deities) premises from today.
Besides, UKAL has urged all concerned to refrain from participating in the Manipur Sangai Festival unless its demand is met.
A joint meeting of 38 organisations in connection with the Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board (3rd Amendment) Bill, which attempts to keep all the Umanglai under the purview of the Govindaji Temple Board, was held today at UKAL office located at Palace Gate, according to Maniton Nganba, convener of UKAL and Lai Lup, who addressed a press meet at UKAL office.
Maniton said that the joint meeting unanimously agreed to form a JAC in this regard.
Apart from convening another meeting on Oct 13 with various bodies including hill-based organisations, the name of the JAC would be announced on the same day.
Stringent measures would be taken up to boycott the Sangai Festival slated for the last part of November in collaboration with the public unless the Govt takes step to annul the Bill, Maniton warned.
He further urged the Govt to stop organising the festival if it doesn't want to face embarrassment or revoke the Bill.
The move should not be construed as posing a challenge to the Govt but should be seen as a step to prevent irreparable loss.
