Sorokhaibam Akee selected for film fellowship

The third edition of the Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) of Himachal Pradesh has recently announced the names of five young filmmakers who have been selected for the DIFF Film Fellows Initiative, a programme launched this year to nurture upcoming filmmaking talents in the Himalayan region.
State filmmaker, Akee Sorokhaibam has been chosen among five other filmmakers from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.
They were shortlisted from among 28 applicants by a jury comprising of film editor and former Artistic Director of International Film Festival of Kerala, Bina Paul, filmmakers Hansal Mehta and Anupama Srinivasan.

The shortlisted five would be given the opportunity to engage in special mentorship sessions with the jury and attend filmmaking sessions in the DIFF, 2014 which would be held from October 30 to November 2 this year.
The festival would hopefully encourage and develop filmmaking talents in the Himalayan regions of India by providing an opportunity to young and upcoming filmmakers from the area to attend DIFF 2014 and participate in its various events, which include screenings of the best contemporary independent cinema, and masterclasses and workshops held by visiting filmmakers and industry professionals.
Akee Sorokhaibam is an independent film maker from Imphal.
After working in a leading news channel in Mumbai for three years, he shifted back to Imphal.
He presently works with many independent artistes.
Akee studied Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Delhi.
He later went on to study Film Appreciation at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India.
He has directed a short film, Dance for Camera, a documentary titled Alternative Dancer, and has also produced a music video called Fly : Athoubi Emagi Macha in his film making career till now.
