Imphal, June 30 2018:
Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee (MPTCC) has demanded immediate resolution of the boundary dispute at the earliest with active involvement of civil society organisations and all political parties and has also demanded the BJP led State Government to clarify regarding the allegation of DC Tengnoupal that he was urged to sign the documents and authenticate the Myanmar manipulated Indo-Myanmar boundary.
A press release issued by the co-convenor and spokesperson of MPTCC, Y Kiran Singh today stated that the recent installation of border pillar No 81 on the Indo-Myanmar international border about 3 kilometres well inside Manipur territory near Kwatha Khunou village has been confirmed by CSOs, non BJP political parties apart from the DC Tengnoupal himself.
It mentioned that Myanmar security forces have also entered and patrolled the area in question without any resistance from the Indian security forces stationed to guard and defend the country's boundaries.
Raising questions about the conspicuous absence of Indian border guards (Assam Rifles) at the scene, it asked if Manipur is truly a part of India or if the Centre considers Manipur as a buffer zone only to be converted into a battleground in the event of a war with China.
If the Centre treats Manipur only as a shield to protect mainland India from external forces, it is high time to revisit the merger or rather the annexation of Manipur to India, it stated.
It further alleged that the Central Government, to gain more presence in Myanmar over China, is compromising the territory of Manipur while the BJP led State Government is remaining as a mute spectator.
MPTCC lauded the candid refusal of the DC Tengnoupal to heed the designs of the Centre and the State Government in signing the documents authenticating the illegal occupation of Manipur's territory by Myanmar.
MPTCC further conveyed that Manipur's boundary can only be compromised over the dead bodies of its people and added that the Centre has never paid attention to the Indo-Myanmar international boundary dispute.
