Zeliangrong Ancestral land expedition begins

A 20-day long Zeliangrong Ancestral Land expedition, 2012 being organised under the aegis of Zeliangrong Citizens' Forum was flagged off by TR Zeliang, Minister of Planning and Coordination, Government of Nagaland from Peren Town Hall yesterday.
The expedition is being undertaken by young and enthusiastic youth, intellectuals and social activists, numbering around 39 of them from the states of Manipur, Nagaland and Assam to all Zeliangrong inhabited areas to familiarize themselves with the history, land and natural resources and the people under the theme "One People, One Vision, One Voice" .
According to reports reaching Hueiyen Lanpao, the expedition team has so far visited Rani Cave and Fizo Cave in Peren District of Nagaland.
Till October 9, the team would remain in the district and explore various sites.
As per the schedule worked out, the team would visit North Cachar Hills on October 11 and 12, Cachar district on October 13; Longkao on October 14; Suilon on October; 15; Barak Water Fall on October 16; Tamenglong on October 17 and Tharol caves on October 18.After that, the team would come to Imphal on October 19 and proceed to Senapati district on October 20 to explore Makui Lungdi, which is considered to be the cradle of Zeliangrong people.
There monoliths would be erected to mark the expedition.
While speaking at the flagging off ceremony at Peren town Hall, T.R.Zeliang stressed on the need to preserve and protect natural resources for economic sustainability, and pointed out that indiscriminate felling of trees does not benefit us but do more harm in reality.
Only a handful of outsiders are benefitted from such destructive acts.
