Special crafts exhibition kicks off

Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons Manipur organised a two-day "Special Crafts Exhibition" (The Hidden Treasure) for physically challenged Soibam BirlaDevi, who was conferred a State award for excellence in doll making.
The exhibition was held at Nupilal Memorial Complex today.
CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities RK Kumarjit, NEIDP Central Working Committee vice president Sapam Kunjakeshore and Handicraft Promotion Officer S Agnibala Devi attended the inaugural ceremony as dignitaries.
Briefing media persons, Birla Devi expressed gratitude to all the people around her for their love and support in organising the exhibition.
She started her career from Youtube and was conferred with a State level award in 2006-07.She decided to be the bread earner and contribute to her family despite being physically challenged, as her parents were ailing and money was running short in the family.
She appealed to all the parents of differently abled persons to show kindness, sympathy and love to their children while adding that her exhibition tells a story for the differently abled persons that they can also make equal contributions as that of a normal person, to the welfare of the society.
As the chief guest of the event, Karam Shyam said that Birla is a living example that differently abled persons can also succeed in life.
She makes dolls and crafts items which an abled person find difficult to make, he said and added that anything is possible when a person is both talented and hard working.
The Minister stated that she is passionate about her work and crafts items with full determination.
Assuring that the State Government will extend all possible assistance to her, he appealed to all the elite families in the State to encourage her by buying the hand crafted items from the exhibition.
The objective of the exhibition is not to earn profit but to help the PwDs in the society, he added.
Lauding Birla for her enthusiasm and hard work, the Minister handed over Rs 50,000 to her as well.
